Men's Lacrosse Sees Historic Season Come To An End After NCAA Second Round Loss to Gettysburg

NEWPORT NEWS, VA (May 12, 2023) -- The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (14-6) was defeated 22-9 by Gettsyburg (13-4) in the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse tournament on Friday evening in Newport News, VA.

The Royals had a historic season that featured the programs' first Landmark Conference title since 2011 and just the second in program history. 

Senior captain Christopher Crapanzano (Basking Ridge, N.J. / Ridge) capped off his stellar career at Scranton with a game-high four goals.

Scranton got things going early as they scored the opening three goals of the game. Crapanzano, senior Mitchell Kozak (Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park Memorial) and freshman Pat McCormack (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) all got on the score sheet in the first period as the Royals held a 4-3 lead headed into the second quarter. 

The Bullets outscored Scranton 9-2 in the second period as they held a six goal lead headed into halftime. 

Gettysburg continued to add to its tally in the second half as the Bullets went on to win by a final score of 22-9. 

Sophomore Colin Hughes (Massapequa, N.Y. / Chaminade) scored a pair of goals for Scranton while Kozak and junior Joe Boyle (Huntington, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) each added a goal and an assist on the night. Senior Matt Solleder (Ramsey, N.J. / Don Bosco Prep) dished out three assists while freshman goalkeeper Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y. / Millbrook) made 14 saves.
