CHAMPS! Hoffmann Notches Second Straight Individual Title as Women's XC Captures Landmark Championship

TOWSON, Md. – Graduate student Jessica Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) captured the individual title for a second straight year and The University of Scranton women's cross country team edged out Elizabethtown by one point to win the team title for the second time in program history at the Landmark Conference Championships that were hosted by Goucher on Saturday.

The Royals finished on top of the team standings with 42 points, while the Blue Jays took second with 43 and Susquehanna finished third with 86.

This marks the Royals' first title in women's cross country since 2009.

Here are some of Scranton's highlights from Saturday's championship meet.

  • Hoffmann became the third student-athlete in conference history to garner Performer of the Year honors as she completed the 6,000 meter course in 21:53.5, nearly a full minute ahead of the second place finisher.
  • The Millington, N.J., native joins Alycia Woodruff (Susquehanna, 2007, 2008 & 2010) and Natalie Novotni (Moravian, 2018 & 2019) as the other multiple time winners of the Landmark title.
  • Sophomore Samantha Hoffmann (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) took seventh for the Royals in 23:32.5, while junior Olivia Tullman (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) placed ninth in 23:46.8. Tullman's performance also earned her All-Landmark honors for a second consecutive year after posting a 13th place finish in 2021.
  • Elsewhere for Scranton, senior Molly Neeson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) finished in 11th place with a time of 23:50.5 and freshman Emily Hopkins (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) secured the team title with a 14th place finish in 24:05.2. Hopkins took 14th place, just three seconds ahead of Elizabethtown's Melissa Fitzgibbon who took 15th place.

The Royals will return to the course on Saturday, Nov. 12 for the NCAA Mideast Regionals that will be held at West Branch Cross Country Course in Lock Haven, Pa.
