Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Fifth at Gettysburg Invitational

GETTYSBURG, PA (December 3, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's swimming & diving team finished in fifth place out of six teams with 338 points at the Gettysburg Invite this weekend in Gettysburg, Pa. 

Swarthmore won the women's side at 1,026, host Gettysburg finished in second at 873.5 and Dickinson rounded out the top three with 449. 

Saturday Morning Session:

  • The Scranton A team set a new season-best time in the 200 medley relay with a swim of 1:51.58 which earned them a sixth place finish in the event.
  • Sophomore Bella Davis (Atlantic Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) posted the top finish for the Royals in the 400 IM and shaved three seconds off her season-best time clocking in at 5:03.37.
  • In the 100 butterfly, junior Michelle Kong (Edison, N.J. / John P. Stevens) dropped just over a second off her season-best time with a 1:00.65. 
  • Senior Kylie Kramer (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) shaved a second off her season-best in the 200 free at 2:02.06 to earn a ninth place finish.
  • With a season-best swim of 1:06.17, senior Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) finished in a tie for third to earn 15.50 points for Scranton.
  • The 100 backstroke saw junior Alyssa Benzija (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon) set a new season-best at 1:01.81 which placed her in 12th.
  • The Royals rounded out the morning session with a sixth place finish in the 800 free relay.

Saturday Evening Session:

  • In the 1650 free, junior Jaclyn Papalski (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) clocked in at 19:07.98 to take 10th.
  • Pikulik added another top 10 finish in the 200 breaststroke as she placed seventh with a swim of 2:30.59.
  • Junior Kayleigh Olszewski (Conshohocken, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) finished eighth in the 200 fly with a season-best swim of 2:13.82. 
  • Scranton rounded out the day with and eighth place finish in the 400 free relay.

The women's swimming team returns to action on January 14th when they host Elizabethtown at 1:00 PM.
