Women's Swimming & Diving Rolls Past Hartwick, 195-79

SCRANTON, Pa. – Four different student-athletes won two events apiece and The University of Scranton women's swimming and diving team rolled to a 195-79 victory over the Hartwick College Hawks in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon at the Byron Recreation Complex in Scranton.

With the victory, the Royals improve to 4-3 in dual meets on the year.

Here are some of Scranton's highlights from Saturday's win.

  • Juniors Alyssa Benzija (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), Michelle Kong (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) and Marina Nunziato (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) along with senior Jeanna Gailius (Milton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) all captured a pair of victories for the Royals.
  • Benzija won the 100 back (1:03.28) and the 100 freestyle (57.09), while Kong posted victories in the 100 (1:01.66) and 200 fly (2:21.84) and Nunziato took home first place in both the 50 free (26.30) and 200 IM (2:23.00).
  • On the diving boards, Gailius won the one meter event with 182.95 points and the three meter event with 181.10 points.
  • Other winners on the day for the Royals included junior Giavanna Baquerizo (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) in the 200 free with a time of 2:04.12, freshman Sarah Kennedy (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) in the 200 back with a time of 2:21.14 and sophomore Alanna Kelly (Yonkers, N.Y./School of the Holy Child) in the 200 breaststroke as she touched the wall in 2:34.81.
  • In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of freshman Emily Carr (Tuckahoe, N.Y./The Ursuline School), senior Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Kelly and Nunziato took first place with a time of 1:55.94.
  • Benzija, Carr, Baquerizo and Pikulik also teamed up for a first place finish in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:43.39.

The Royals will return to the pool on Dec. 2 & 3 for the Gettysburg Invitational.
