Women's Swimming & Diving Splits Tri-Meet with Misericordia & Moravian

DALLAS, Pa. – Three different student-athletes won individual events for The University of Scranton women's swimming and diving team on Saturday as the Royals split a tri-meet with Misericordia and Moravian at the Anderson Sports Center in Dallas.

Scranton rolled to a 223-10 win over the Greyhounds, but dropped a tight 136-125 decision to Misericordia. The Royals are now 3-2 in dual meets on the year.

Here are some of the Royals' highlights from the meet.

  • Junior Jaclyn Papalski (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) won the 1000 free with a time of 11:43.01, while classmate Kayleigh Olszewski (Conshohocken, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur)  captured the 200 fly in a time of 2:18.84 and junior Alyssa Benzija (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) won the 200 back with a time of 2:18.26.
  • Senior Kylie Kramer (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) posted a pair of second place finishes for Scranton as she took second in both the 100 free (57.19) and 200 free (2:03.48). Benzija notched a second place finish in the 50 back in 29.76 seconds and senior Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's) took second in both the 50 (32.00) and 200 breaststroke (2:40.88).
  • Olszewski added a second place performance in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.41 and Papalski was second in the 500 free with a time of 5:40.97.
  • The Royals also picked up a pair of relay victories on the day in the 400 medley and 400 free relays. For the former, the quartet of Benzija, Pikulik, junior Michelle Kong (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) and Kramer held off Misericordia (4:10.68) by less than a second as they touched the wall in 4:09.94.
  • To close out the race, Benzija, Pikulik, junior Marina Nunziato (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) and Kramer won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:49.15.

Scranton will host Hartwick in a dual meet next Saturday at the Byron Recreation Complex with action getting underway at 1 p.m.
