SCRANTON, PA (October 15, 2022) -- The University of Scranton women's swimming team toppled Arcadia 169-92 in its season opener at the Byron Recreation Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Jaclyn Papalski (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central) got the day rolling with a first place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 11:31.38, beating out the second place finisher by over 15 seconds.
Senior Kylie Kramer (Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) took first in the 100 free with a swim of 2:04.92 while sophomore Maggie Daly (Newark, Del. / Saint Mark's) finished right behind her at 2:07.44.
Senior Danielle Pikulik (Smithtown, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) and Sophomore Alanna Kelly (Yonkers, N.Y. / School of the Holy Child) finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:12.09 and 1:12.51 respectively.
In the 200 butterfly junior Kayleigh Olszewski (Conshohocken, Pa. / Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) clocked in at 2:16.77 to take first and secure nine points for the Royals.
Junior Alyssa Benzija (Kinnelon, N.J. / Kinnelon) swam her way to a first place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:17.72. Kelly then won her second event of the day as she swam a 2:36.50 in the 200 breaststroke.
Papalski joined Kelly and notched her second win on the day in the 500 free where she swam a 5:34.84. Junior Michelle Kong (Edison, N.J. / John P. Stevens) took the victory in the 100 fly with a swim of 1:02.62.
Olszewski captured her second win of the meet in the 200 IM to cap off a strong day in the pool for the Royals.
The women's swimming team will return to action next Saturday when they head to Marywood for a 1:00 PM meet.
