SCRANTON, Pa. - It was an historic evening in the Byron Center Friday for The University of Scranton men's & women's swimming teams, as they kicked off the 2021 Landmark Conference Virtual Championships inside the Byron Center.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the format of the Landmark Championships is being held virtually at individual campus sites across the conference.
Here are some highlights of the first evening of competition:
- Two Byron Center records fell on the night. First, in the men's 200-medley relay, the Royals "A" team set a new pool mark with a time of 1:37.31. Swimming on the team for Scranton was freshman Scott Majka (Marysville, Pa./Trinity), senior's Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) and John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), and sophomore Michael Krumenacker (Ambler, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep).
- On the women's side, senior Lauren Byrne (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) continued to etch her name into the record books, breaking the Byron Center pool record in the 200-IM after hitting the wall in 2:07.58.
