FARMINGDALE, NY (October 5, 2022) -- Sophomore Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) scored the eventual game-winner in the 52nd minute as The University of Scranton women's soccer team earned a 1-0 non-conference win at Farmingdale State on Wednesday evening.
With the win the Royals advance to 8-2-1 on the season.
Healy recorded the first shot on goal of the game in the 11th minute but saw her effort saved by Lindsey Jolly of Farmingdale State. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) got called into action in the 20th minute and came through with a save for the Royals to keep the game scoreless.
The Rams had several chances at the end of the first half but Olson and the Scranton backline held strong and kept Farmingdale State off the scoresheet. The game remained tied at 0-0 headed into the break.
Healy made her mark on the game just seven minutes into the second half as she recieved a pass from senior Teresa Hegarty (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Merion Mercy Academy) and buried her shot into the back of the net to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
The Rams made a late push in the 86th minute as Julissa Martinez fired a shot at goal but Olson was up to the test and made her fifth save of the night to secure the shutout win for the Royals.
Scranton outshot Farmingdale State 22-10 in the match and held a 5-0 advantage on corners.
The women's soccer team returns to action this Saturday at 4:00 PM in the second game of a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Elizabethtown at Weiss Field.
