Nikki Olson of Women's Soccer Nabs Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week Accolades

Sophomore goalie Nikki Olson (Stoughton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) of The University of Scranton women's soccer team helped lead the Royals to a 1-0 victory over Stevens on Saturday and has been named Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

This marks the first career Landmark weekly award for the keeper.

Olson made four saves in the 1-0 win over a Ducks team that was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and ranked fifth in Region IV. Junior Emily Tantala (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored the lone goal of the game in the 32nd minute with an assist from classmate Gabrielle Richetti (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East).

Earlier in the week, the Royals' goalie tallied two saves in 45 minutes of action as part of a 1-1 draw at Lebanon Valley.

Scranton sits at 4-1-1 on the young season and hits the road to face Wilkes this evening with action getting underway at 7 p.m.
