Senior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) scored a pair of first-half goals to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Wilkes on Tuesday night at Weiss Field.
Hreniuk scored in the 11th and 15th minutes as Scranton (7-0-1) remained unbeaten to start the season. Her first goal came on an assist from sophomore forward Corinne McDonald (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and the second game on a helper from sophomore midfielder Mazie Stiles (Nyack, N.Y./Albertus Magnus).
The two goals give Hreniuk seven on the season and 32 for her career, which ranks tied for 10th in program history. McDonald recorded her second assist of the season and fourth of her career while Stiles now has now has two assists in 2018 and eight in her career.
Scranton held a 16-9 edge in shots, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made four saves for the shutout, including two in succession from point-blank range on a Wilkes corner kick in the 76th minute. Berry earned her third shutout of the season and 16th of her career, which is tied for eighth-most in team history.
Scranton also had 9-1 advantage in corner kicks while improving to 28-5-1 all-time against Wilkes, which dropped to 2-4-1 on the season.
The women's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29, when the Royals host Goucher in a Landmark Conference match at 4 p.m. at Weiss Field.
