UNION, N.J. – Senior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) scored two goals for the second time in two days to lead The University of Scranton women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Kean University on Saturday afternoon.
Hreniuk also scored twice in the Royals' season-opening 4-0 win over Stockton on Friday. She now has four goals in two games after scoring 25 over the past two seasons. Her 29 career goals are ranked 13th in program history.
The Royals (2-0) scored quickly as senior midfielder Erica Licari (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) scored an unassisted goal in the 12th minute. The game remained 1-0 – despite the Royals dominating the shot totals – all the way until the 87th minute.
That's when Hreniuk scored her first of the day on a long shot that curled into the upper left corner of the net. Just 2:30 later, she added her second of the game when she broke in alone on the keeper and deposited a shot into the back of the net.
Scranton finished the day with a 24-8 edge in shots, including 11-5 in shots on goal. The Royals also had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made five saves for her first shutout of the season. She now has 14 career shutouts, tied for 10th most in Royals history.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when the Royals travel to Danbury, Conn., to face Western Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
