UNION, N.J. – Senior forward Jamie Hreniuk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) scored once in each half as The University of Scranton women's soccer team opened the 2018 season in strong fashion, posting a 4-0 win over Stockton in a game played at Kean University.
Hreniuk, who scored 25 goals over the past two seasons, opened the scoring in the 21st minute on an assist from senior midfielder Brittany Uricchio (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury). She added her second of the game just 26 seconds into the second half on an unassisted breakaway, putting Scranton ahead, 3-0.
The Royals also received a first-half goal from senior midfielder Taylor Stevens (Yardley, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) when her corner kick found its way into the net. Freshman midfielder Olivia Traphagen (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute on an assist from sophomore forward Corinne McDonald (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South).
Senior goalkeeper Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made two saves in the opening 69 minutes, and freshman keeper Amanda Steinberg (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) made four stops over the final 21 minutes to preserve the season-opening shutout.
The Royals held a 14-11 edge in shots and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Scranton is right back in action on Saturday when they take on the host school, Kean. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
