HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The University of Scranton wrestling team won four of the final five bouts, but came up just short in a 33-17 loss to the Centenary University Cyclones on Tuesday night at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center in Hackettstown.
The Royals are now 3-7 in dual meets on the year.
- At 165 pounds, senior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) got Scranton on the board with a 7-0 victory against the Cyclones' Perry Maio. Graduate student Will Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) then followed with a dominant 19-3 technical fall over Angelo Piazza at 174 for his 90th career victory.
- Laughlin is now 20-4 on the season and his 90 career wins rank sixth in program history.
- Senior Ryan Bihasa Lenahan (Floral Park, N.J./Chaminade) continued the Royals' comeback efforts with a pin of Justin Hopman in the first round of action at 184 and classmate Hunter Marhan (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) notched a 3-1 win over Dalton Deevey in the heavyweight bout.
Scranton is right back in action Thursday night as they head to Keystone for a tri-match with Bergen College beginning at 6 p.m.
