WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Two members of The University of Scranton wrestling team competed in the 89th annual Wilkes Open that was hosted at the Marts Center on Thursday in Wilkes-Barre.
Freshman Shkeb Nadir (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) competed at 141 pounds, while senior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) wrestled at 165 pounds on the day for the Royals.
Nadir wrestled against a pair of Division I opponents on the day as he took on Eddie Hummel of Army and Sebastiano Nini of Rutgers.
For Oakes, the Scranton native picked up a pair of victories at 165 as he rolled past AJ Cerulli of Ursinus with a 16-1 technical fall victory and also notched a 7-0 decision over RJ Moore of Franklin & Marshall. He eventually dropped a tough 3-1 overtime decision to Ohio Northern's Jordan Hardrick.
The Royals will return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 14 for the Will Abele Invitational that will be hosted by Ursinus College.
