WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton wrestling team recorded a ninth place finish at Saturday's season-opening Ned McGinley Invitational that was hosted by King's College at McGrane Gymnasium in Wilkes-Barre.
Scranton finished ninth in the team standings with 53.5 points as Stevens won the team title with 139.5 points.
Here are some of the Royals' highlights from Saturday.
- Senior Jeremiah Oakes (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) finished in third place at 165 pounds for the Royals as he picked up a total of five wins on the day including a pin of Kings' Frankie Theroux in 1:35 to secure the third place finish.
- At 174 pounds, graduate student Will Laughlin (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) notched a pair of pinfall victories en route to a third place finish.
- Elsewhere for Scranton, sophomore Justin Schifter (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) posted a total of four victories at 125 pounds and junior Daniel Kosinski (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) registered three wins at 157 pounds. Kosinki pinned Kings' Colby Spencer in 5:32 and also notched a 16-0 technical fall against Shea Parkis of United States Merchant Marine Academy.
The Royals return to the mat on Wednesday night versus East Stroudsburg as dual meet action in the John Long Center will get underway at 7 p.m.
