MANHEIM, Pa. – Senior Dan D'Agostini (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and junior Keegan Connelly (Schnecksville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) of The University of Scranton wrestling team enjoyed outstanding seasons on the mat this year.  Both have also excelled in the classroom and those combined performances have been recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA with D'Agostini and Connelly both collecting) Scholar All-American awards.

D'Agostini and Connelly, both repeat recipients of the awards, were among 261 individuals representing 83 NCAA Division III institutions to be honored by the NWCA, which also recognized Team Academic Award winners.

 "On behalf of the NWCA Board of Directors, I would like to congratulate all of the wrestlers, teams, and their staffs who have demonstrated a tireless commitment to supporting the ideal of educationally based athletics," NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said. "What can get lost during the season of competition is that these young men are students first and it is our honor to be able to recognize the individuals and squads who risen to a level of excellence academically.

D'Agostini earned his third Scholar All-American in as many years following a record-breaking senior season. He became the first Scranton wrestler to qualify for the NCAA National Championships since 2007 after finishing runner-up at 197 pounds at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships. 

D'Agostini broke a two-decade old school record for wins in a season by going 39-5 on the season with seven pins, seven technical falls, and seven major decisions. He finished his career with a 108-31 overall record to rank third in program history for career victories while totaling 20 points  An electrical engineering major, D'Agostini boasts a 3.74 cumulative grade point average. 

Connelly captured Scholar All-American honors for the second time in his career following an outstanding junior campaign.  Connelly, who previously won the award as a freshman, posted 36-11 overall record this winter and finished the year with seven pins, four technical falls, and four major decisions.  His 36 victories are the third-most in a single season in Scranton history.

For his career, Connelly holds an 84-37 record with 15 pins. He will enter his senior year fifth on the Royals' all-time wins list and tied for 16th in pins.  A criminal justice major, he sports a 3.20 cumulative grade point average.
