MADISON, N.J. – Senior Jill Henson (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tied a career-high with eight points and The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (2-0, 2-0 Landmark) opened up an 11-4 halftime lead en route to an 18-8 victory over the Drew Rangers (1-1, 1-1 Landmark) on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Ranger Stadium in Madison.
Henson tallied five goals and three assists on the afternoon to match her career-high of eight points that had previously been set on May 1, 2019 vs. Moravian. The Baldwinsville, N.Y., native is now tied for ninth all-time in program history with 178 points.
The Royals came storming out of the gate and opened up a 5-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game on the strength of two goals apiece from Henson and freshman Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side). Drew cut the lead to 6-2 at the 13:36 mark, but Scranton answered with the next three goals and a tally from Henson extended the lead to 9-2 with 7:12 to play in the first half. Junior Halle Conklin (Point Lookout, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) converted a free position shot with just over two minutes left in the half and the Royals held the afore-mentioned 11-4 lead at halftime.
Senior Bridget Lalley (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) found the back of the net just 27 seconds into the second half and junior Jennifer Williams (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) scored just 22 seconds later to give the visitors a 13-4 advantage with 29:11 to play. However, the Rangers would score four of the next five goals and cut the lead to 14-8 at the 12:35 mark. Reich stopped the run with her fourth tally of the day and the Royals scored the final four goals of the day to preserve the win.
For the second consecutive game, Scranton featured a balanced scoring attack with five different players recording multi-goal games. Henson and Reich led the way with five goals apiece, while Conklin and Lalley each had a hat trick and Williams added two goals. Reich has now scored seven goals in the first two games of her collegiate career after registering two goals and an assist in Saturday's win over Juniata.
Junior Emily Schum (East Hanover, N.J./Morris Catholic) tallied seven draw controls and Conklin added five for head coach Chrissy Trescavage's squad. Schum also added two ground balls and a caused turnover in the contest, while senior Lauren Devlin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made nine saves for the Royals.
Scranton held a 46-20 shot advantage on the afternoon and each team tallied 14 draw controls apiece.
Lauren Cassella topped the Rangers with four goals.
