TUNKHANNOCK, Pa. - In the first event of her collegiate career, freshman Victoria Dowling (East Northport, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) matched The University of Scranton women's golf school record for lowest round (78), leading the Royals past Marywood, Wilkes and King's on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Stone Hedge Golf Club.
Dowling also led the Royals to an historic day, as Scranton finished with a team score of 332, the lowest in an event in the history of the Royals' program, besting a mark of 333 set in Sept. 2019 vs. Wilkes at Scranton Municipal Golf Course. The team score of 332 put the Royals easily past competitors Maywood (358), Wilkes (382) and King's (440) at the event on the par 71 layout, as well.
Elsewhere for Scranton, another freshman Madalyne Buhler (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) was just as impressive in her first collegiate match, carding an 82. Junior Emma Nemitz (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) finished with an 84, while fellow junior Molly Lennon (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) fired an 88 in her first event of the year.
Rounding out the Royals' line-up at the event was sophomore Katie Pagano (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), who finished with a 90, and junior Abigail Allen (New Milford, Conn /Immaculate H.S.), who carded a 98 on the afternoon.
The University of Scranton women's golf team returns to action on Monday, April 5 when they travel to Morris, Twp., N.J. for the Drew Invitational. The event, which will be played at Springbrook Country Club, begins at 11:30 a.m.
