Sophomore guard Bridget Monaghan (Florham Park, N.J./Morristown-Beard) of the women's basketball team has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week on Monday for the period ending Feb. 21, 2021.
This marks the second time in her career that Monaghan has been named Scranton Athlete of the Week after she previously won the award on Jan. 27, 2020.
The Florham Park, N.J., native averaged 19.5 points per game in two games last week as the Lady Royals picked up a 63-46 win at Catholic on Friday before falling just short in a 60-55 setback against the Cardinals on Sunday. Monaghan scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the win at Catholic on Friday and capped the week with a career-high 22 points in Sunday's game.
The 22 point performance surpassed her previous career-high of 21 that had been set on Feb. 1, 2020 at Elizabethtown. Monaghan's previous career-high in rebounds was seven in a win over Wilkes on Nov. 24, 2019.
On the season, Monaghan is averaging 17.0 points per game which ranks second in the Landmark Conference and shooting 36.8% from three-point range which ranks fifth in the conference. She is also averaging 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game.
Scranton will host Moravian in Landmark Conference action on Wednesday night with tip-off at the John Long Center slated for 7 p.m.
