MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team (1-1, 1-1 Landmark) dropped a 6-3 decision to the Drew Rangers (2-0, 2-0 Landmark) on Wednesday afternoon at the CSE Tennis Courts on the campus of Saint Elizabeth University.
The Royals captured the No. 1 doubles match as senior Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and sophomore Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) registered a thrilling 8-7 (9-7) victory over the Rangers' duo of John Dickey and Bryce Kennedy. However, Drew won the other two doubles matches to take the early 2-1 lead.
McGurrin and fellow senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) both won singles matches on the day for Scranton, while O'Mara dropped a 6-4, 7-5 heartbreaker to Drew's Jeremy Gottlieb at No. 4 singles.
McGurrin was a straight set winner (6-3, 6-3) over Geoffrey Diehl in No. 1 singles action and Harrington rolled past Dan Blumenthal 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Scranton will play a pair of Landmark Conference matches this weekend as they will travel to Susquehanna on Saturday before returning home to host Juniata on Sunday. First serve on Saturday is slated for 1 p.m. and Sunday's match is slated for a 12 p.m. start time.
