ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team returned to the court in style as the Royals (1-0, 1-0 Landmark) swept Elizabethtown (0-1, 0-1 Landmark) in a Landmark Conference dual match on Saturday afternoon in Elizabethtown.
The duo of senior Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep)/sophomore Patrick O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) recorded an 8-0 victory in No. 1 doubles action, while senior James Harrington (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) and sophomore Nathan Tauber (Bethlehem, Pa./Nazareth Area) captured an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles play, junior Sal Sullivan (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) and freshman Jason Budrys (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) notched an 8-7 thriller to give the Royals the early advantage.
McGurrin swept the Blue Jays' Derek Yenser 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Harrington accomplished the same feat against John Hanson at No. 2 singles. Tauber registered a straight set victory (6-1, 6-0) over ETown's Brock Culver in No. 3 singles action and O'Mara cruised past Jeffrey Lapidus 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles flight.
Sullivan defeated the Blue Jays' Justin Brown in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) in No. 5 singles and in No. 6 singles, sophomore Steven Prosperino (Brewster, N.Y./North Salem Central) topped Chris Talluto, 6-3 6-1.
Scranton heads to Drew for a Landmark Conference dual match on Wednesday afternoon with first serve set for 4:30 p.m.
