The University of Scranton men's tennis team was slotted second in the 2019 Landmark Conference preseason coaches' poll, which was released by the conference office Friday morning.
Voted first in the poll is three-time defending Landmark Conference champion Goucher, who garnered 66 total points and six first-place votes. Scranton came in second with 60 points and a pair of first-place votes, followed by Juniata (44 points) and Drew (33 points).

Scranton, who finished runners-up to Goucher in the Landmark Conference playoffs a season ago and went 13-4 overall, returns a solid nucleus from that team entering the spring portion of their 2018-19 campaign.
Leading the way for Scranton is sophomore Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep), who will lead the Scranton line-up at both singles and doubles again this season. Last year, McGurrin earned All-Landmark Conference honors in both singles and doubles, capturing six matches in the number one spot of singles throughout the year and 10 in doubles action.
Elsewhere, senior Alexander Ochalski (Hopewell, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) returns to the lineup, as well. In his career, he has earned All-Landmark Conference honors in singles once (2017) and doubles three times ('16-18).
Meanwhile, fellow seniors Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) also return for the Royals. Each has been a stand-by in the starting line-up in their first three seasons in the program. Harkins has been an All-Landmark Conference performer in either singles or doubles in each of the last two years, while Swope won 12 matches in singles last season.
Rounding out the returnees is graduate-student Christian Aksu (Exton, Pa./West Chester East), who has won 30 doubles matches throughout his career, going 17-3 in Landmark Conference play.
Scranton, who went 2-0 in during the fall season in matches, opens their spring schedule on Feb. 23 at Elmira. After taking on Pratt on Mar. 2, the Royals will then head to Florida for their annual slew of matches over Spring Break. This season, Scranton will play four matches, in total, in the Sunshine State.
Landmark Conference play will begin on Mar. 30 at Catholic, as Scranton will host Drew, Susquehanna, Juniata and Moravian at Royal Courts throughout the month of April.
