ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Scranton men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Franklin & Marshall in the final match of its Spring Break trip on Thursday. The Diplomats improve to 2-3 on the season while the Royals will bring a 5-2 record back to Pennsylvania after going 3-2 on their trip to Florida.
Franklin & Marshall took a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. At the top pairing, Keller McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) and Tarquin McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Prep) suffered a tight 8-5 setback while the Royals were defeated by 8-3 score lines in both #2 and #3 doubles.
In singles competition, Keller McGurrin and Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) were both defeated in tie-breakers as Scranton was unable to get on the board. McGurrin was defeated at #1 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 while Harkins dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 decision at #5 singles.
Scranton will open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, April 7 when they host Goucher. First serves are schedule for 1:00 p.m. on the Royal Courts in Scranton.
