HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team swept a tri-meet hosted by Juniata on Saturday, defeating the host Eagles and Goucher to improve to 3-1 on the young season.     

The Royals defeated the host Eagles (0-2), 160-81, and also topped the Gophers (1-3), 188-59, to extend their win streak to three.

Sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) won a pair of individual races while seniors Dan Muenkel (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington) and Michael Ramsthaler (Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), along with sophomore Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) and junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) posted victories to lead Scranton on the day.

Mills won the 100 breaststroke by clocking in at 1:07.63, setting a new pool record in the event. He followed that performance up with another pool record and first place finish in the 200 breaststroke, posting a mark of 2:29.41.

Muenkel took first in the 200 backstroke after touching the wall in 2:28.11 and also claimed a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke.

Donnelly won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:10.21 while Ramsthaler finished first in the 100 butterfly by pacing the field at 1:04.72.  Quigley added a win in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:26.39.

In addition to Muenkel's second place result in the 100 backstroke, the Royals totaled eight more runner-up finishes on the day.

Senior Alexander Rigione (Fairfield, Conn./Saint Joseph) touched second in the 800 freestyle while classmate Chris Whalen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) claimed second in the 100 breaststroke and fellow senior Brayan Winiarz (Long Pond, Pa./Evergreen Community) nabbed a runner-up result in the 50 freestyle.

Freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) took second in the 100 freestyle, sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug) brought home a runner-up result in the 200 backstroke, and junior Joseph Cavanaugh (Staten Island, N.Y./Saint Peter's) notched a second-place showing in the 200 breaststroke.

Sophomore John Canilla (Florham Park, N.J./Oratory Prep) was the runner-up in the 400 freestyle and junior Nathan Koziol (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) claimed second in the 200 IM.

The Royals also won both relay events on the day. 

Koziol, Mills, Quigley, and Winiarz placed first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.54, edging out the team of Cannilla, Donnelly, Muenkel, and junior Gregory Spicka (Morris Plains, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) which was the second place finisher in the event.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Ramsthaler, Morgan, Rigione, and Whalen clocked in at 1:43.60 to win the event.

Scranton returns to the pool next Saturday with a dual meet at Dickinson starting at 1 p.m. in Carlisle, Pa.
