The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving received standout efforts from sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) in the home opener on Saturday in the Byron Center, but it wasn't enough in a 148-114 loss to Catholic.

Mills and Quigley both had a pair of individual wins and swam on a victorious relay team. But the Royals (0-1) won only six of 14 events.

The standout duo joined seniors Michael Ramsthaler (Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and Chris Whalen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) on the winning 200 medley relay team. They opened the meet by taking the event with a time of 1:37.81.

Mills went on to post a win in the 50 freestyle in 22.37 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 1:59.27. Quigley posted individual wins in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.20 and the 100 fly in 53.87 seconds.

Mills also had a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley. Quigley joined Ramsthaler, junior Gregory Spicka (Morris Plains, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and senior Alexander Rigione (Fairfield, Conn./Saint Joseph) on the 200 freestyle relay team that finished second.

Sophomore Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.16 and added a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Ramsthaler chipped in with a second place in the 100 backstroke and freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was second in the 500 freestyle.

The Royals will return to action on Friday, Nov. 2, when they host King's at 5 p.m. in the Byron Center.
