The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team has been predicted to finish third in the Landmark Conference this season according to a preseason poll of the league's eight head coach that was released on Thursday afternoon.

The Royals were slotted third in this year's poll, garnering 48 points after finishing in third place at last season's Landmark Conference Championships.

Two-time defending conference champion Catholic was tabbed as the preseason favorite after collecting 70 points and seven first-place votes while Susquehanna was picked second with 56 points and one first-place vote.

Drew was tabbed fourth with 34 points and Elizabethtown came in fifth with 24 points while Marywood (20 points), Goucher (11 points), and Juniata (9 points) rounded out the poll.

Led by head coach Mark Yankovich, who is entering his third season at Scranton, the Royals are looking for their first-ever Landmark Conference championship after compiling an 8-4 record during the regular season a year ago.

Junior Michael Diana (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata-Somerville) returns after earning Landmark Conference Diver of the Year in both of his first two season at Scranton including co-recipient honors last season after winning gold in the 3-meter dive and silver in the 1-meter dive.

Also returning for the Royals is a pair of All-Conference performers from last season in junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug)

Quigley won the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke at last season's conference championship meet while Fimmano was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly.

Scranton also returns three-fourths of both its 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay teams which finished second a year ago.

Quigley, senior Michael Ramsthaler (Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), senior Brayan Winiarz (Long Pond, Pa./Evergreen Community) are back after leading the medley relay quad to a runner-up finish last winter while Ramsthaler, Quigley, and sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) return to the 400 medley relay squad.

Scranton opens the 2018-19 season this Saturday at Lafayette as the Royals will compete against the host Leopards and St. Peters starting at 1 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
