BALTIMORE, MD (November 12, 2022) -- Three first half goals led John Carroll past the University of Scranton men's soccer team in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening.

The Royals see their 2022 campaign come to a close after an impressive run that featured the program's first Landmark Conference title since 2016.

The Blue Streaks opened up their scoring on the night in the 16th minute when Patrick Koenig scored off an assist from Steven Samuelson to give John Carroll a 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks added two more goals in the late stages of the first half as they went on to win the game 3-0.

Senior goalkeeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) got the start in net and made five saves in 80 minutes of action before being relieved by freshman Charlie Smith (evon, Pa. / Conestoga) for the final ten minutes.

Offensively, sophomore midfielder Seamus O'Keefe (West Newbury, Mass. / Pentucket Regional) led the Royals with three shots in the contest.

The men's soccer team finishes the year with an overall record of 11-7-2.
