WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 2, 2022) -- Sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) scored on a header in the 54th minute off an assist from junior Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Catholic in the Landmark Conference Semifinals on Wednesday evening.

With the win, the Royals advance to the Landmark Conference Championship match on Saturday afternoon at second seeded Elizabethtown at 2:00 PM. The Cardinals were undefeated in conference play headed into tonight's game but were upset by the Royals thanks to Corr's heroics.

Junior Anthony Rizzi (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield) had the first shot on goal of the contest in the 16th minute but saw his effort stopped by Catholic's goalkeeper Austin Coron.

Senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) made his only save of the first half in the 40th minute when he stopped a shot from Gordie Bernlohr. The game remained locked up at 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes of action.

Just nine minutes into the second half Corr recieved a perfect cross in from Estevez on the wing and headed the ball past Coron into the back of the net to break the deadlock and give Scranton a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Corr's tenth of the season which ranks tied for second most in the conference.

Corr's goal proved enough to give the Royals a 1-0 victory at Carlini Field in an upset over top seeded Catholic. Hartey finished the game with three saves for Scranton.

More information will be provided soon on Saturday's Landmark Conference Championship at Elizabethtown.
