SCRANTON, PA (October 29, 2022) -- Freshman Justin Curran (Media, Pa. / The Shipley School) scored a goal in the final minute of the first half that proved the difference for The University of Scranton men's soccer team in a playoff clinching 1-0 win over Juniata on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.

The Royals move to 9-6-2 on the season and secure the fourth seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs.

Scranton took to the attack to start the game and got an early shot on goal as senior Brendan King (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) forced a save out of Juniata's goalkeeper Axel Grater in the second minute.

Sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) and junior Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) each had solid efforts at goal in the opening 15 minutes of action but had their shots saved by Grater.

In the final 15 seconds of action Curran recieved a pass from King and used his strength and skill to beat a pair of Eagle defenders before ripping a shot with his left foot into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Royals a 1-0 lead headed into halftime.

The game became very physical in the second half as both sides exchanged blows. The Royals maintained composure and continued to dominate possession as they went on to secure a 1-0 victory over the Eagles.

Scranton held a 16-2 advantage in shots and a 6-4 advantage in cornerkicks. Senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) posted his fifth shutout of the season and secured his seventh win of the year.

The men's soccer team will now prepare for the Landmark semifinals on Wednesday where they will head to Catholic for a 7:00 PM kickoff in Washington, D.C.
