SCRANTON, PA (October 8, 2022) -- The University of Scranton men's soccer team fell in Landmark Conference action to Elizabethtown College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.
With the result the Royals move to 7-4-1 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
The Blue Jays got on the board first in the eighth minute as Jake Groh scored on a header off a well placed free kick from Cade Brubaker to give ETown an early 1-0 lead.
Scranton responded just over 10 minutes later as sophomore Seamus O'Keefe (West Newbury, Mass. / Pentucket Regional) used his skill to beat a Blue Jay defender down the end line and found junior Anthony Rizzi (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield) in front of the net for an easy tap-in to square up the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute.
Both sides searched for the go ahead goal in the late stages of the first half but the game remained tied at 1-1 headed into the break.
Sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) tried his luck in the opening minutes of the second half but saw his effort saved by Elizabethtown's goalkeeper Kelvin Del Cid.
The Blue Jays broke the deadlock in the 71st minute as Ryan Hepler scored on a one touch finish off a cross from Mehluko Letsoalo.
Scranton searched for a late equalizer but were unable to find it as Elizabethtown went on to win 2-1. The game with physical from start to finish and featured eight cards.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday when they host Ursinus in non-conference action at Weiss Field at 7:00 PM.
