SCRANTON, PA (October 1, 2022) -- Sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) scored a brace and junior Anthony Rizzi (Bloomfield, N.J. / Bloomfield) added a screamer as The University of Scranton men's soccer team took down Goucher 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.

The result brings the Royals to 7-2-1 on the season and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play.

Corr opened up the scoring on the day in the ninth minute when he recieved a perfectly weighted pass from junior Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) and tucked his shot into the bottom left corner of the net to give Scranton an early 1-0 lead.

Just ten minutes later Corr capitalized on a mistake from the Goucher goalkeeper as he received a misplayed throw and beat out the keeper to the near post to give the Royals a 2-0 lead.

Rizzi made his mark on the game in the 35th minute when he received a pass from freshman Max MacCaull (Fayetteville, N.Y. / Jamesville-DeWitt) and hit a beautiful long range shot with the outside of his boot into the top right corner of the net.

Scranton held a 3-0 lead headed into the halftime break.

Corr saw of the best opportunity of either side in the second half as he rattled the posted in the 50th minute. Senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) played well along with his backline as the Royals secured their fifth shutout of the season.

The men's soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to nearby Keystone College for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
