SCRANTON, PA (September 27, 2022) -- Junior Dylan Estevez (Garnerville, N.Y. / Don Bosco Prep) scored on a rocket from 25 yards out in the 53rd minute to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 3-2 win over Wilkes on Tuesday night at Weiss Field.

The Royals continue their dominance at home as they improve 4-0 at the Quinn Athletics Campus this season and advance to 6-2-1 on the year with the victory.

Wilkes got things going early as they opened up the scoring on the night in the fourth minute when Colin Schulmeister found himself on a breakaway and beat out Scranton goalkeeper Charlie Smith (Devon, Pa. / Conestoga) to give the Colonels an early 1-0 lead.

Scranton didn't waste any time answering as sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) capitalized on an opportunity in the first start of his career as a Royal. Corr recieved a pass off the head of freshman Logan Campbell (Chalfont, Pa. / Central Bucks South) and buried a header into the top right corner of the net to level the game at 1-1 in the 10th minute. The sophomore forward currently leads Scranton with five goals on the year.

Junior Nick Addamo (Holbrook, N.Y. / Sachem East) got his name on the scoresheet for the first time this season when he converted off of a deflection in front of goal in the 13th minute to give Scranton its first lead of the game.

The Royals maintained the one goal lead headed into halftime.

Wilkes found an equalizer early in the second half as Matthew Horwedel converted on a mistake in the Scranton back line to tie the game up at 2-2 in the 50th minute. The Royals showed their resiliency as they regained their lead just minutes later. Estevez received a rebound off a free kick and ripped a shot into the bottom left corner of the net leaving the Wilkes goalkeeper Nick Kinzler no chance.

The Royals had a few good chances to improve upon their lead but were unable to convert in the late stages of the second half. The back line held strong along with junior goalkeeper Ryan Lally (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township), who relieved Smith at the start of the second half, and Scranton went on to win 3-2.

Scranton held a majority of the possession and outshot Wilkes 21-8 in the contest.

The men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Goucher at 1:00 PM at Weiss Field.
