SCRANTON, PA (September 10, 2022) -- Sophomore Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, Pa. / Marple Newtown) scored the eventual game winner with a header in the 38th minute to lead The University of Scranton men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Kean University on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.
With the win the Royals improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Royals came out of the gates strong, forcing lots of pressure in the attacking third. Sophomore Sean Quin (Stony Point, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus) saw the first chance of the game as he missed his shot high of the frame.
Scranton had a great look in the 23rd minute as freshman Logan Campbell (Chalfont, Pa. / Central Bucks South) saw his effort from inside the box saved by Kean goalkeeper Dillon Konzelmann.
Corr broke through for the Royals in the 38th minute as he knocked in a header off a throw in from Campbell to give Scranton a 1-0 lead headed into the break.
Freshman Justin Curran (Media, Pa. / The Shipley School) found himself on one vs. one breakaway with Konzelmann where he juked out the keeper and had his effort saved off the line by a Kean defender.
Kean pushed to find an equalizer in the second half but couldn't break through the stellar Scranton back line anchored by senior captain Brendan King (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield).
Corr had another opportunity to add to his tally in the 68th minute as he was in on goal, but saw his effort stopped by Konzelmann.
Senior goalkeeper Aidan Hartey (Elkins Park, Pa. / St. Joseph's Prep) maintained his clean sheet with a nice save on a free kick from just outside the box in the 86th minute. Hartey made two saves in the win for Scranton.
The Royals posted a 19-6 shot advantage in a dominating offensive performance.
The men's soccer team will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Misericordia for a 7:00 PM kickoff.
