DALLAS, Pa. - Sophomore Matthew Fleming (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) fired an even par 72 to lead the charge, as The University of Scranton men's golf team rolled past host Wilkes on Wednesday, 298-345, at Huntsville Golf Club.
Playing in rainy conditions for most of the round, the Royals had an impressive afternoon, as all five players in the starting line-up broke 80, paced by Fleming's 72, as the sophomore shared medalist honors on the day with Wilkes' Andrew Finke.
Elsewhere, junior John Shaughnessy (Florida, N.Y./S.S. Seward Institute) fired a career-low round of 73 (+1) to finish just one shot behind the two medalists in the event. Sophomore Ethan Zawatski (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) carded a 76 (+4), while fellow sophomore Collin Ennis (Pleasant Mount, Pa./Scranton Prep) finished with a 77 to round out the line-up for Scranton.
The University of Scranton men's golf team takes this weekend off and returns to action on Monday, when they take part in the Drew Invitational at Springbrook Country Club in Morris Twp., N.J. The event gets underway at 11:30 AM.
