Junior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team has been a force for the Royals this season and posted his fifth double-double of the year last Wednesday to lead Scranton to an 87-68 victory at York (Pa.). As a result, he has been honored as The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Mancuso had a strong all-around performance in Scranton's win over the Spartans on Wednesday, tying for the team-lead in scoring with 20 points while pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds. He also led all players with three steals and matched a game-best with two blocked shots.
Mancuso, who made seven of his 10 field goal attempts against York and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, also dished out four assists as the Royals improved to 7-0 to start the season for the first time since the 1991-92 campaign.
Mancuso leads the Landmark Conference in scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots, averaging 19.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. He is also shooting 58.8 percent from the floor and 82.7 percent from the charity stripe, both of which rank in the top-10 in the conference.
Twice been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for men's basketball this season and also honored as the MVP of the Hilton Scranton Invitational in November, Mancuso is also 22nd in the country in rebounding ranks ninth in defensive rebounds per game with 8.7. His five double-doubles are also the 17th most in all of NCAA Division III this year.
Mancuso and the Royals return to action on Monday, December 17 when they host Manhattanville in a non-conference game starting at 3 p.m. in the Long Center.
