SCRANTON, Pa. – Sophomore Reagan Dolan (Broomall, Pa./Bonner & Prendergast) scored the game-winner just 1:13 into the first overtime period and The University of Scranton field hockey team (8-3, 3-1 Landmark) notched a key 2-1 victory over the Moravian Greyhounds (6-8, 3-2 Landmark) on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.
After an initial shot by junior Katie Redding (Havertown, Pa./Haverford), Dolan was able to dive with her stick towards the loose ball and poked home the game-winner into the open cage for the victory. The game-winner was Dolan's second of the season after she previously scored an overtime goal in a 4-3 win over Arcadia on Sept. 10.
Senior goalie Clare Maguire (Oreland, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy) made an early save for the Royals just under two minutes into the game as she denied the Greyhounds' Sarah Bietka with a shot following a penalty corner. Scranton recorded a trio of penalty corners in the 10th minute and took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute as Dolan's blast from the side of the circle tipped off of a Moravian defender's stick and into the cage. The 1-0 score would hold through halftime as Maguire added two more saves.
Head coach Colleen Moyer's team held a slight 5-4 shot advantage through the opening 30 minutes.
The Royals nearly extended the lead in the early stages of the third quarter, but Moravian goalie Brooke Wilkinson made a pair of saves on attempts by Redding and fellow junior Bridget Abraldes (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East). Wilkinson also added a save on a penalty stroke by junior Cori Davis (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) in the 50th minute and the Greyhounds evened the game at one just over three minutes later with a goal from Jenna Seagrave following a scrum in the circle.
