Sophomore Megan Gallagher (Thorndale, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scored a pair of goals on Friday night to lead The University of Scranton field hockey team to a 2-1 victory at Muhlenberg in the Royals' season-opener. For her performance, she has been honored as the Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Gallagher opened the scoring just 3:56 into Friday's contest in Allentown with an unassisted goal before giving Scranton a two-goal advantage in the 19th minute of the contest with her second tally of the contest.
Gallagher scored on two of her three shots she took during the contest as the Royals held the Mules off the scoreboard until 30 seconds left game to pull out the victory.
After just one game, Gallagher is halfway to her total of four goals during her freshman season last fall. She has now recorded 20 points during her career at Scranton with six goals and eight assists.
Gallagher and the Royals will play their first-ever game on Weiss Field on Wednesday night when they take on William Paterson in their home opener starting at 7 p.m.
