Sophomore right-hander Daniel Johnson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Immaculata) of The University of Scranton baseball team threw a one-hitter in Saturday's win over Drew and has been named Honorable Mention Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Association.
Johnson turned in his second straight dominant outing as he allowed just the one hit over seven innings and fanned a career-high nine batters in Saturday's 6-0 win over Drew in game two of a doubleheader. The nine strikeouts are the most by a Royals pitcher since Brian Markowski struck out nine in a win over Maritime (N.Y.) on March 10, 2019.
The right-hander now has a 12 inning scoreless streak and has given up just one earned run in 14 1/3 IP over three appearances (two starts).
Scranton completed the four-game sweep of Drew and has now won six of seven to improve to 7-5 in the Landmark Conference. The Royals return to action with a doubleheader at Susquehanna on Saturday, April 17 at 12:30 p.m.
