The University of Scranton volleyball team was honored for their work in the classroom by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this past week, as the Royals earned the 2016-17 AVCA Team Academic Award from the organization.
Scranton is one of 822 programs across the country to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award for 2016-17, which is an all-time high. The Royals were also one of 150 programs to earn the award from NCAA Division III, as well.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
