Junior Caroline Banas (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer) of The University of Scranton women's track & field team is enjoying another indoor season, having most recently won the high jump at Saturday's. S.U. Challenge. As a result of her performance, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
On Saturday at Susquehanna, Banas won the high jump for the second time in three meets this season by clearing the bar at 1.62 meters. She previously won the event at the season-opening River Hawk Opener on November 30 and was the runner-up at the Moravian Indoor Invitational on January 26.
In addition to winning the high jump on Saturday at Susquehanna, Banas helped the Royals to a fifth place finish in the 4x200 meter relay as Scranton posted a time of 1:56.41 in the race.
Banas, who earned All-American honors in the indoor high jump last winter, is the defending Landmark Conference champion in the event. She currently has the second best mark in the conference this season with a jump of 1.63 meters at the River Hawk opener in November.
This week's University of Scranton Athlete of the Week honor is the second of Banas's career as she also earned the award last January.
Banas and the Royals will return to action on Sunday at the DuCharme Invitational hosted by Dickinson College starting at 10 a.m.
