SCRANTON, Pa. -- The trio of senior Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) and sophomores Christine Olert (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) and Katie Rogers (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) all had big days for the University of Scranton women's lacrosse team against Susquehanna on Saturday, as the Royals coasted past the visiting River Hawks, 17-8, in Landmark Conference action at Fitzpatrick Field.
With the win, Scranton improved to 9-4 overall and finish Landmark Conference play for the regular season with a 4-2 mark. Susquehanna fell to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the Landmark Conference with the defeat.
In the win, Scranton put away Susquehanna in earnest in the first half, as 10-0 scoring run to end the period put the Royals up for good at 12-2 entering intermission. In the second period, the Royals kept a sizeable lead throughout, as the closest Susquehanna came to the large lead was nine goals on two separate occasions.
Overall, Kerr and Olert led the Royals offense in the victory, each scoring four goals, apiece. Kerr also added three assists in the win, while Olert added one assist, as well.
Five of the 17 goals that Scranton scored on the day were assisted by Rogers, who made four assists alone in the first half for the Royals. The five-assist game for Rogers was a career-best for the sophomore, as she has recorded nine assists over the last two matches for Scranton.
Other players who scored goals on the day for Scranton included sophomore Kaitlyn Murphy (Somers, N.Y./North Salem) and junior Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), who both scored two goals, apiece.
Meanwhile, the following five players had one goal on the day for Scranton: junior Morgan Windisch (Williston, Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), sophomore Elena Gallo (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), junior Colleen O'Rourke (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), and freshman Shannon Warburton (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Erin Ahern (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester).
On the defensive end, freshman goalie Erin Putnam (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) earned the victory after making seven saves in 30 minutes of action. Also, freshman Becca Russo (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) had four draw controls on the afternoon, as Scranton had 14 on the afternoon.
The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Cabrini for a non-conference match. Things are slated to get underway at 6 p.m.
