Junior attacker Morgan Windisch (Williston Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Acad.) had a big match at Elizabethtown on Thursday, scoring three goals and adding two assists to lead the University of Scranton women's lacrosse team to a come from behind 15-11 win on the road in Landmark Conference play.
For her efforts, Windisch was named the University of Scranton's Athlete of the Week for the period ending April 17, 2017 on Tuesday. This marks the third time in Windisch's career that she has earned Athlete of the Week honors.
In the Elizabethtown match, Windisch scored back-to-back goals in the first half to pace Scranton out to a 4-1 lead early. But, the host Blue Jays came back, eventually taking an 8-4 lead into intermission.
In the second period, Scranton charged on a comeback of their own, eventualy knotting the match up at 9-9 with 17 minutes left in regulation. Here, Windisch scored her third goal of the contest to put the Royals up 10-9, giving Scranton a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night.
The goal kick started a four-goal run for the Royals that put them up 13-9 late, as Scranton held on to collect a key Landmark Conference victory that pushed their record to 3-1 in conference play for the year and 8-3 overall.
For the season, Windisch is having a breakout junior season offensively, scoring 20 goals, while adding six assists. Coming into the season, she had scored 21 goals total in the last two seasons, while recording four assists.
Windisch and the rest of the University of Scranton women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Drew for another Landmark Conference contest. Things get underway at 7 p.m.
