ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Senior attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored six goals, including a pair of key second-half goals, to lead The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team to a 16-12 victory over Oneonta State on Tuesday evening at All College Field.

Giorno scored four times in the first half as the Royals (8-5) built an 11-6 lead, but she scored back-to-back goals after the Red Dragons (8-8) had cut the lead to 12-10 to seal the victory. She also had an assist on a first-half goal by junior attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional), who finished with three goals.

Scranton also received three goals apiece from senior midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and sophomore midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) in the win. Freshman midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy) had a goal and an assist and freshman midfielder Fiona Keelan (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) had an assist.

The Royals scored four straight goals in the opening 10:05 after Oneonta State had scored 31 seconds in to take a brief lead. Scranton later scored four of the final five goals of the half to lead by five at halftime. But the Red Dragons scored three straight goals after halftime to get within 11-9 and were still within two when Giorno scored twice to give Scranton some breathing room.

Senior goalie Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made 14 saves and scooped up four ground balls for her seventh victory of the season.

Scranton is back in action when it hosts Drew University in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field, the final regular season game for the Royals. They will open the conference playoffs on Wednesday, May 1, against an opponent at a site and time to be determined.
