Canio Cianci returned to the Lady Royals' bench in 2017-18, as he completed his fifth straight season as an assistant. Cianci, a 1968 graduate of The University of Scranton, helped the Lady Royals on the defensive end of the court.

Cianci previously served as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University, first under head coach Bob Bessoir from 1983 to 1996, helping the Royals win six Middle Atlantic Conference titles and reach the Final Four in 1988. He returned to the Royals' bench under current head coach Carl Danzig for five seasons in the mid-2000s, winning a Freedom Conference title in 2006 and a Landmark Conference title in 2009.

After his second stint on the Royals' bench, Cianci spent time as an assistant women's basketball coach at nearby Marywood University.

Cianci has also enjoyed success on the high school level, leading Dunmore and Scranton Prep to numerous league titles, first at Dunmore in the late 1970s and later at Scranton Prep in the late 1990s.
