Senior forward Katie Feehery (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) had a big impact as The University of Scranton women's basketball team posted a trio of victories last week. As a result, she has been named The University of Scranton Athlete of the Week.
Feehery averaged 9.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals off the bench to help 22nd-ranked Scranton (8-1) go 3-0 last week and capture the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic title.
The week started with Feehery contributing six points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 22 minutes in a 67-63 road victory over York (Pa.) on Wednesday, Dec. 13. She went 3-for-5 from the field as the Lady Royals rallied late to defeat the Spartans.
On Friday, Dec. 15, Feehery had 11 points, three assists, a rebound and a block in 19 minutes as Scranton cruised to an 81-48 victory over Hartwick in the opening round of the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic in the Long Center. She was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and hit 1 of 2 at the free throw line.
A day later, Feehery secured all-tournament honors with 12 points, six rebounds, a block, an assist and a steal in a career-high 35 minutes in a 65-60 overtime win over 17th-ranked Messiah in the title game. Her energy on both ends of the court sparked the Lady Royals in the first half and she had two points and a steal in overtime as Scranton won the battle of Top 25 teams.
On the season, Feehery is averaging 8.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.1 blocks and 0.9 steals in 23.8 minutes per game.
The Lady Royals are back in action this afternoon when they host Lebanon Valley at 3 p.m. in the Long Center.
