The season-opening Cross-County Challenge, the Hilton Poinsettia Classic and a holiday trip to Nashville, Tenn. will highlight The University of Scranton women's basketball team's 2017-18 schedule, announced by head coach Trevor Woodruff on Thursday.
The two-time defending Landmark Conference champion Lady Royals will open the season on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, in the Cross-County Challenge at Wilkes in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Scranton opens the event against King's on Friday at 6 p.m., then faces the host Lady Colonels on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Three non-conference games dot the schedule before the Landmark Conference opener on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m. at Juniata College. After a break for finals week from Dec. 3-9, the Lady Royals will return to action with six non-conference games over the remainder of December.
After a game at York College in York, Pa. on Dec. 13, Scranton will host the Hilton Scranton Poinsettia Classic on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16, in the John Long Center. Opening night action features Messiah vs. FDU-Florham at 6 p.m., followed by Hartwick against Scranton at 8. Saturday's third-place game tips off at 2 p.m., followed by the title game at 4.
The Lady Royals will visit the home of country music on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29-30, to play in the Music City Classic at Volunteer State Community College. Scranton will face Wheaton College (Illinois) on Friday at 6 p.m. Eastern and Keene State on Saturday at noon Eastern.
The Music City Classic will wrap up non-conference play, as the Lady Royals head into the heart of Landmark action by hosting Elizabethtown on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 4 p.m. They will play three of their first four January games at home, then play four straight road games, followed by four straight at home before ending the regular season at Goucher on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m.
Landmark Conference highlights include:
- Home against Moravian on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m.;
- At Catholic, Saturday, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m.;
- At Moravian, Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.;
- Home with Catholic on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m.
The Landmark Conference semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 21, with the championship game set for Saturday, Feb. 24.
