Men’s Swimming & Diving Falls at Ramapo/Posts High Finishes at Ranger Invite

The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team battled all afternoon against host Ramapo in a dual meet, but the host Roadrunners were able to take a 162-100 win over the Royals on Saturday.

The meet, which was the final for the Royals before going on a break for the Holiday season, dropped the Royals' record on the year in dual meets to 3-3.

Scranton also took part in the Ranger Invite the last two days, which was held at Drew University.

On the day, Scranton got off to a fast start in the 200-medley relay, where Scranton's "A" team collected a victory after finishing in 1:38.45. The team consisted of senior's Michael Ramsthaler ( Florham Park, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), Chris Whalen (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), and Brayan Winiarz (Long Pond, Pa./Evergreen Community), along with sophomore Jack Donnelly (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North).

Next in the 1000-freestyle, freshman Evan Morgan (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was victorious, hitting the wall in 10:46.10. Ramsthaler then collected the next victory for the Royals, as he captured the 100-backstroke in 55.13.

In the 100-breaststroke, Donnelly finished on top with a time of 1:02.01, which turned out to be the final individual win of the day for the Royals.

The final event of the afternoon, which was the 200-freestyle relay, saw Scranton finish on top with a time of 1:30.19. On the relay team for the Royals was Winiarz, Ramsthaler, Whalen, and sophomore John Fimmano (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug).

Drew Ranger Invite | Results

Several members of the Royals headed to Drew over the weekend, and posted some high finishes as the team finished fifth overall in the event.

To start the weekend off, sophomore Matt Mills (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was second in the 200-IM with a time of 1:57.12. Mills went onto take the 400-IM later in the meet, hitting the wall in 4:18.56 to take the event.

In the 100-butterfly, junior Timothy Quigley (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was victorious, as well, with a time of 52.00. The next win for Scranton came in the 100-breaststroke, where Quigley and Mills hit the wall in the same time (58.49) to share first place honors.

Mills went onto finish off a big meet with Scranton's last victory of the weekend, which came in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:08.76.

The University of Scranton men's swimming & diving team is now idle until Jan. 13 when they host Elizabethtown in a dual meet inside the Byron Center. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
