MOOSIC, Pa. – Fresh off a thrilling playoff win in the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational on Monday, The University of Scranton men’s golf team rode that momentum to a pair of victories in a tri-match against FDU-Florham and Marywood on Wednesday at Glenmaura National Golf Club.
Scranton, which is undefeated in 11 matches this season, defeated FDU-Florham, 315-326, and Marywood, 315-334, on a brilliant day at the par-71 layout.
Junior Grant Gulick (Binghamton, N.Y./Johnson City) led the Royals with a 5-over-par 76, his ninth sub-80 round of the season, Sophomore Erik Meyer (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was a stroke back at 77, which was his team-leading 11th sub-80 round this season. Senior Jamie Bresnahan (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) fired an 80 while freshman Eric Montella (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) shot 82.
The victories came just 48 hours after the Royals shot 302 in the second round to get into a playoff at the Invitational, which they won on the second playoff hole over McDaniel College. It was Scranton’s third straight Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational title.
The Royals will now prepare for the third and fourth rounds of the Empire 8 Conference championships, which are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21, at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.
