Junior forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) of The University of Scranton men's basketball team has been a dominant force all season for the Royals and his strong play continued last week as he led Scranton to a pair of conference wins. As a result, he has been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week for the fourth time the season.
Mancuso averaged 18.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game as Scranton defeated Moravian and Juniata to clinch a berth in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs. He also dished out five assists, collected five steals, and block three shots on the week while recording his ninth and tenth double-doubles of the season, tops in the Landmark Conference.
In Scranton's 86-80 overtime win against Moravian on Wednesday, Mancuso scored 16 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as the Royals earned a crucial win over the Greyhounds, who had been tied atop the league standings.
On Saturday, Mancuso had a huge game, totaling game-highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds, which was also a career-high, to go along with four assists, three steals, and two blocks as Scranton knocked off Juniata 77-68 to punch its ticket to the postseason for the 14th time in the last 15 years.
For the season, Mancuso is averaging 15.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding. He also leads the league with 35 blocks on the year.
Mancuso and the Royals head into the final week of the regular season looking to improve their seeding in the postseason tournament. The quest begins on Wednesday with a matchup at conference-leading Drew on Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m. in Madison, N.J.
