Neumann University shot better than 64 percent in the second half to pull away and hand The University of Scranton men's basketball team an 83-70 defeat on Monday evening in the John Long Center.

The Knights (5-2) were 20-for-31 (64.5 percent) from the floor in the second half, turning a 36-32 halftime lead into a double-digit advantage with 13 minutes remaining. Tyaire Hudson led all scorers with a game-high 29 points for Neumann.

Scranton (2-6) received a team-high 18 points, including four 3-pointers, from senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights). Senior forward Drew Schankweiler (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had his fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) added 11 points and four assists.

The Royals shot 46.4 percent (26-for-56) from the field, including 12 of 31 (38.7 percent) from 3-point range. The 12 made 3-pointers tied a season high and the 31 attempts were the second-most of the season by Scranton. DeVerna and sophomore guard Jack Dreisbach (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) hit three each.

Scranton was 6 of 8 from the free throw line and committed 15 turnovers while forcing just 10. Senior guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) had another strong floor game, finishing with seven assists and just one turnover, his third game this season with at least six assists and just one turnover.

Neumann made 7 of 15 (46.7 percent) from 3-point range after the Knights came into the contest hitting just 28.7 percent from beyond the arc on the season. They made 12 of 19 (63.2 percent) from the free throw line and held a 34-27 edge on the glass.

The Scranton men's basketball team will now break for final exams. The Royals will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when they host Arcadia at 7 p.m. in the Long Center.
